Eurasian Eagle Owls, Bangalore - May, June & July, 2005

I recently had the good fortune of repeatedly sighting and photographing few Eurasian Eagle Owls around our buzzling city of Bangalore. Though very common owls, they are rarely seen due to their nocturnal nature. Being one of the big owls, they are very efficient hunters and a great thrill to watch and photograph. They are ferocious and aggressive birds, and will not hesitate to attack even humans when defending their nest. Quite rightly, they are called 'Tiger with wings'.

Here I present a few of the photographs I managed of these great birds of the night. Please click on the thumbnails to see a bigger picture.

To me, personally, these great Eagle Owls are one of the best kept secrets of our wilds. They symbolize the traits of the skilled hunters of the wild - powerful, secretive and deadly.
