A visit to Manchinbele reservoir
Initially I had planned to visit Savandurga this Saturday, but the destination
changed en route. Starting from Bangalore at 8AM, and breakfasting at Kamat Lokaruchi
5kms past Ramanagaram, I took the north-bound deviation from Ramanagaram to go to
Savandurga. A few kilometers later, I saw the board 'Manchinbele 15kms' pointing to the
right. Immediately I changed my plans, for I had wanted to see this reservoir for quite
sometime.
The reservoir had a good amount of water, and it was a very beautiful place. Surrounded
by hills and huge rocky hillocks, the reservoir was set amidst very scenic surroundings.
And there were a lot of birds also to be seen and photographed. For the next few hours I
had a good time generally roaming around the reservoir and stalking and shooting birds,
until rains came on after noon, and I had to return. On the way back, I didn't go back
to Ramanagaram, but instead took a shorter route to Bangalore-Magadi road, touching Bangalore
by around 4pm.
Here is a list of birds I saw:
- White Browed wagtails
- Red Vented Bulbuls
- Crested Larks
- Ashy Crowned Sparrow Lark
- Brahminy Kites
- Black Kites
- One Great Cormorant
- Few Little Cormorants
- Common Mynas
- Purple Rumped Sunbird
- Asian Silverbills
- Juvenile Baya Weavers
- Couple of Hoopoes
- One Purple Heron
- Few Pond Herons
- Little Egret
- Few Pied Bushchats
