Puttenahalli Lake - 10 July 2004
Puttenahalli lake is very much inside Bangalore itself. Hearing about
good reports from birders and photographers about this place, I visiited the
place on 10th July and spent the whole morning of the Saturday in the vicinity
of the lake. The lake is 2 kms past the Yelahanka Police Station. One has to take
a particular left turn after 2 kms past the police station, and immediately is
a Forest Deaprtment nursery. Behind the nursery is the lake.
The lake is a miniature Ranganthittu. Like the popular Ranganthittu Bird
Sanctuary, Puttenahalli lake has a small island in the middle of the lake, and
a lot of water birds nest, roost and breed there.
I remember seeing:
- Purple Moorhen
- Spotbilled Duck
- Common Coot
- Whitecheeked Barbet
- Pond Heron
- Grey Heron
- Black Kite
- Lesser Coucal
- Little Grebe
- Little Cormorang
- Ashy Prinia
- Purple Rumped Sunbird
