Leaving Liverpool - 9, 10 May 2004
The three months of exile came to an end finally, and I left Liverpool on 8th
on my way home to Bangalore. I spent the day at London, and visited the
London zoo and the Tower Bridge.
The next day, 9th, an aircraft of Srilankan Airlines took me to Colombo, and
another took me to Bangalore from there. I was at Bangalore by 10AM on 10th.
The dissapointment of not being able to spend a couple of days at Srilanka
(couldn't get leave at office) was mitigated by the early touching of homeland.
Liverpool was an excellet city. The people were friendly, polite and courteous.
One feels great to be amidst such people. They had very good road and traffic
sense, and it is not surprising even if a huge truck stops for one to cross the
road. Day to day life was easy, simple and hassle free. Boys pass around a football
on the streets, an old man in suit walks past, pretty young ultra modern girls
walk by giggling loudly, a toddler stops to stare at a total stranger from the
east, a bus driver gives a warm smile... life was slow, unhurried, and happy.
Liverpool gave me some very good things in life; I saw new places, new people,
and saw how the White Man leads his life, and above all, a new reason for me
to pursue my interests in wildlife - a SLR camera. A new start, and a new thrill
in life begins, as I start venturing out with only shooting in my mind.
I don't know if I will be justified in comparing our country - India - with the
English. Life in India seems to be an altogether different one from what
it was there.. there is no road sense, no courtesies, not many smiles, and everyone
is in a hurry and tumbling over.. Whether it is right or wrong is beyond my
ability to judge, but I just think that if only our people could be a bit slower,
more thougtful, more polite, and more sweet, everyday life will be better for
each Indian.
